About the Series
Cris's POV:
If I was forced to describe the development of the series in a single word, it would have to be
gradual. If I was allowed to pick a few more words, I would pick things like
therapeutic and
improvisational--two words that sum up the better part of
Under the Van Gogh perfectly, because when I started writing what would later become some of the earlier stories, I had no intention of writing a series. I have tried several times in the past to plan a novel-length story or series, only to have it derail in some terrible fashion. At the earliest point, I was writing to keep sane as I adjusted to my life in college. (I still do.)
The year things really got started (with or without my conscious knowledge) was 2006--although, if you want to get really specific, we could go all the way back to spring of 2005, when I was still a senior in high school. It was in a creative writing class that I wrote a violent little story called "Roulette". Coincidentally, spring of 2005 was also when I was introduced to the music of My Chemical Romance…but we'll come back to them a little later.
So. Where was I? Ah, yes. Spring of 2006.
